Katanga Concessions

Full name:
Katanga Concessions (formerly Anmercosa Exploration Sprl)
Mwana interest:
Mwana has a 100% beneficial holding in the Katanga Concessions (which is subject to a joint venture exploration Option Agreement with Anglo American).
Current status and prospects:
At Kibolwe a significant secondary enriched sediment-hosted stratiform copper deposit has been identified. Mineralisation is hosted within steeply dipping Roan and Mines Sub–group rocks. The dominant copper oxide mineral is malachite with minor amounts of cuprite and tenorite which occur within argillaceous carbonate and shale units. Reverse circulation drilling programmes have outlined a number of mineralised zones. The Main Zone, which is up to 40 metres wide in places, can be traced over a strike of 1000 metres and is open–ended to the west.
Note: Complete audited assay results from the Kibolwe project are now available.
The Kibolwe Surround prospects which include Kiamoto, Nyundeulu and Ecaille C&N are regarded as high priority stratabound copper–cobalt targets. Exploration has located copper–cobalt mineralisation within Roan strata developed over strike lengths in excess of 450 metres. Trenching and drill programmes are in progress which are evaluating these and other prospects in the Kibolwe area. Some of these prospects include the Mwombe, Kawesitu and Mukema prospects which have the potential to yield significant concentrations of copper, cobalt, nickel, uranium and platinum. Trenching and mapping at Mwombe has identified Roan strata over a 5 kilometre strike length with trench sections yielding 1.3% nickel and 0.6% cobalt over 3 metres. 0.9 g/t platinum was also recorded in a 1 metre wide trench sample. A 40 metre wide breccia with copper oxides and sulphides extending over a 700 metre strike length was located at the Mukema Prospect.
Reconnaissance exploration on the north–western prospects of Lufungu and Kaleza has located Roan strata with elevated cobalt concentrations (0.14% Co over 15m) which also warrant following up.
Lombe remains an attractive zinc prospect with significant zinc soil anomalies and mineralised strata that will be drill tested in the coming months.
Significant concentrations of copper and cobalt have been identified on the Lunsano, Kamungoti, Mifumbi and Lutobwe prospects. Exploration on these prospects is ongoing.
Regional geochemical soil sampling programmes have located extensive lead, zinc and copper soil anomalies some of which are 2 kilometres long and 400 metres wide in the north–eastern portion of the tenement area. These anomalies are currently being investigated and will be followed by trenching and drilling programmes.
A regional airborne magnetic and radiometric survey is to be undertaken over 7,000 square kilometres of prospective ground within the Mwana licence area.
