London, 24 April 2008 - The board of Mwana Africa plc (“The Company”), the pan-African resource company is delighted to announce that with effect from 1 June 2008, Peter Sydney-Smith will be appointed Finance Director, succeeding the late David Fish, a Mwana founder and former Finance Director.
Mr Sydney-Smith has extensive experience in the mining and metals sector, emerging markets and Africa, and previously held the position of Finance Director with African mining company Nikanor. He acted as finance director for a number of companies, including Vedanta Resources plc, BPB plc, the international building materials group and British Gypsum Ltd. Mr Sydney-Smith is a chartered accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.
Commenting on the announcement, Kalaa Mpinga, Chief Executive Officer of Mwana Africa, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome Peter Sydney-Smith to the Mwana team and to be securing the services of such an experienced Finance Director for this key position.
