Corporate citizenship

Companies operating in the extractive industries in developing countries face increasing expectations on the social and environmental front. Mwana Africa recognizes this challenge. As a dynamic, entrepreneurial company, our vision and strategy articulate our commitment to the core business practices that underpin our support for sustainable development. Our aim is to strengthen returns for our investors while also benefiting other stakeholders, including our employees and the communities which our operations impact.

The current focus is on our established mining operations. As our exploration assets come into production, customized practices will be developed for these new ventures.

Mwana Africa’s reputation for responsible development has been established by ensuring a safe working environment for its staff, by positively affecting the communities in which it operates, and by minimizing the environmental impact of its activities. The company’s primary contribution to the remote areas in which it operates is the stimulation of economic activity through the creation of jobs, development and support of local businesses, the use of local contractors, and the purchase of goods and services from nearby suppliers. The focus of Mwana Africa’s social initiatives continues to be in education, health, and support of small and medium enterprises (SME’s).

Given the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility, Mwana was very proud that Freda Rebecca received an award for the best CSR programme in 2010 in the Mashonoland Central region by the Zimbabwe Chamber of Commerce.
